Power Utilities National Occupational Standard (NOS) Consultation – Open Now

Energy & Utility Skills is inviting employers, training providers and professional bodies to review the revised Power Utilities National Occupational Standards (NOS).
Starting: 19/05/2026 12:00
Ending: 12/06/2026 17:00

Why this review matters

NOS describe what an individual needs to do and needs to know to perform a work activity, including the skills, knowledge and understanding required.

The NOS suite requires review to ensure it remains fit for purpose, current, and reflective of real-world working practices. The NOS will be used as building blocks for the revised Electrical Power Engineering Level 5 CBQs when the current one’s lapse at the end of this year, and the review will seek to align the NOS with the Power Industry apprenticeship standards in England.

This NOS suite covers functions involved in installing, upgrading and maintaining power plant and apparatus to achieve the safe and continuous supply of electricity through the transmission and distribution networks.

Relevant roles include substation fitter, overhead lines person and cable jointers

Have your say

Following a series of industry workshops to produce draft NOS, industry stakeholders from across the UK are invited to review and comment on the NOS to ensure they reflect industry best practice:

Your input is highly valued and will directly shape the final standards, helping ensure they are fit for purpose and industry-led.
