Operate plant and machinery in the Tramway environment
Overview
This standard is about operating plant and machinery in the Tramway environment. It is about being able to prepare the plant and machinery for use and confirming that the surrounding area is protected from damage. You will be able to set up, operate and manoeuvre a wide range of plant and machinery safely and with minimal impact on the environment and stakeholders. You will know and understand the operational constraints found in the Tramway environment and how these could impact on the safe use of plant and machinery. You will be able to undertake maintenance activities within the limits of your own authority, close down the plant and machinery after work activities and confirm that they are safely stored and secure.
This standard is for those who work in the Tramway engineering and construction environment.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
P1 confirm you are wearing the correct PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and following the relevant health and safety procedures
P2 possess the required information and documentation to operate plant and machinery in the Tramway environment in line with organisation procedures
P3 complete preparation activities on plant and machinery
P4 protect the work and surrounding area from damage or interference
P5 use the required communication techniques whilst using plant and machinery in line with organisational procedures
P6 operate and manoeuvre plant and machinery in the Tramway environment
P7 return plant and machinery to a safe operational state upon completion of work activities
P8 close down, clean and secure plant and machinery after use
P9 carry out maintenance activities to plant and machinery within the limits of own authority
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
K1 the relevant health and safety procedures appropriate to the activity including safe systems of work
K2 the relevant legal and organisational requirements relating to the use of plant and machinery in the Tramway environment
K3 how the use of plant and machinery can affect stakeholders and the surrounding environment
K4 the methods and techniques for reducing the effect of operational plant and machinery on stakeholders
K5 the operational constraints that may be found in the Tramway environment and how these can impact on the safe operation of plant and machinery
K6 the information and documentation required prior to activities taking place
K7 the risks associated with using plant and machinery
K8 the principles of protection in the Tramway environment and the methods used
K9 the importance of clear and effective communication whilst operating plant and machinery
K10 how to configure plant and machinery using information relating to the work activities
K11 how to hand over responsibility of plant and machinery
K12 the importance of storing and securing plant and machinery when not in use
