Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- keep the work area clean and safe at all times
- organise the work area to to meet production requirements
- check that equipment and tools are in good working order and ready for use
- protect products from contamination and damage at all times
- identify products to be processed from work instructions
- carry out manual operations in accordance with work instructions and agreed procedures
- use approved work methods to process products
- check processed products meet specification
- minimise work interruptions and downtime to maintain production timelines
- work in ways that minimise wastage at all times
- handle products with care in in line with agreed procedures
- forward products to the next stage in the production process in line with agreed procedures
- identify and isolate imperfect products in line with agreed procedures
- report any faults to the appropriate person in line with agreed procedures
- complete and store accurate records and documentation in line with agreed procedures

- how to receive, interpret and follow work instructions, making use of the information supplied
- how to identify products which do not conform to specification
- how to report faults to the appropriate people
- how to forward products and ensure their safe handover
- how to interpret and follow work instructions
- the checks needed to ensure product quality and quantity
- the effects of wastage on operations and sustainability
- the type of materials to be used and the quantities needed
- how to report problems with products, materials or equipment
- how to protect products from damage and contamination during operations
- how to forward processed products safely to next location
- the importance of achieving quality and its relation to the end user or customer
- how your specific work activities relate to the whole process and limits of own responsibility
- how to resolve problems within the work area
- the importance of effective communication with colleagues, lines of communication, authority and reporting procedures
- the organisation's rules, codes and guidelines including timekeeping and personal hygiene
- own organisation's ethical and sustainability policies
- the types of records kept, how they are completed and the importance of accuracy
