Overview
This standard is about printing designs onto fabric. This could apply to the use of rotary, ink jet or screen printing techniques.
This involves preparing the work area for printing, setting up, starting, monitoring and completing the printing process, monitoring and controlling the quality of the printing process and making sure customer specifications and requirements are met.
This standard is for anyone who prints designs onto fabric using rotary, ink jet or screen printing techniques.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- identify the correct material batches from job sheets or identification tags, confirming the specifications required
- prepare images or pre-press supplied by customers for the printing process
- check sufficient support services are available to commence processing
- check sufficient quantities of print pastes and auxiliaries are available
- identify and report any faults with the raw materials to appropriate people
- check relevant risk control measures are in place
- lift and move materials using correct lifting procedures
- check that work area is suitable, free from hazards and obstructions and complies with organisational procedures and work systems
- load items or products in the correct way for machine and material type
- check print paste has the correct consistency or viscosity
- place print paste and auxiliaries in the proper section of the machine in the correct order
- check materials are used in the correct order
- select correct machine program and adjust machine settings and parameters to meet printing requirements
- carry out start-up checks and check for blockages before starting
- start, carry out and monitor the printing process in line with the specifications
- detect and report equipment faults or defects in line with agreed procedures
- inspect printed items and report or rectify faults within limits of own responsibility
- minimise work interruptions and downtime to maintain production timelines
- work in ways that minimise wastage at all times
- identify, mark and segregate any faulty products in line with agreed procedures
- forward completed batches to the next stage of production or to a suitable containment or storage area
- comply with organisational procedures and systems of work
- dispose of waste following organisational procedures
- complete required documentation in line with agreed procedures
- clean machinery and equipment upon completion of printing in preparation for the next batch
Knowledge and Understanding
