This standard is about controlling textile testing procedures.
This includes selecting, planning and monitoring testing routines, dealing with abnormal occurrences, evaluating and validating test results, presenting test results and making recommendations.

Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- work in line with instructions, specifications and samples
- identify and select textile testing routines to suit specifications and samples
- plan and prioritise testing routines in line with instructions
- ensure equipment is within calibration and maintain calibration records
- carry out textile testing routines in line with agreed procedures
- check test procedures are followed and meet customer requirements
- monitor testing routines at specified intervals
- deal with abnormal occurrences using approved interpretive techniques, organising additional testing when required
- confirm environmental and health and safety requirements are met
- dispose of waste in accordance with organisational procedures
- analyse test results, ensuring results are valid and reliable
- evaluate data against required outcomes, identifying any deviations
- investigate problems and recommend corrective action when required
- draw valid conclusions from processed data
- complete reports and make recommendations in required formats
- complete and store accurate records and documentation in line with agreed procedures
- present results to appropriate people within agreed timescales

- how to receive, interpret and follow work instructions, samples and specifications making use of the information supplied
- the principles and purpose of testing
- how to select appropriate testing methods and appropriate testing equipment
- the methods to use to control variables
- how to accurately follow test procedures
- health, safety and environmental requirements and procedures for testing
- ways of ensuring the serviceability of equipment and action to take when it is defective
- how to identify and check the integrity of the sample
- methods of safe storage
- the types of abnormal occurrence and how to deal with them
- how to identify and validate data to required levels of accuracy
- the required units of measurement
- statistical and mathematical techniques applicable to data
- the tolerance limits of results
- methods of dealing with deviations, and procedures for, correcting data
- how to recognise anomalies in data against standard operating procedures
- the appropriate interpretative techniques to use
- procedures for recording, storing and retrieving data
- reporting procedures and report writing techniques
- the importance of achieving quality and its relation to the end user or customer
- how to resolve problems within the work area
- how your specific work activities relate to the whole process and limits of own responsibility
