Overview
This standard is about ensuring the textile machinery and equipment is operating to full capacity and meeting quality and quantity production requirements.
This includes; monitoring production runs against specification, identifying irregularities in operations, analysing and rectifying faults in production, producing and maintaining accurate records of machinery and equipment operations.
This
standard is for those who monitor the performance of textile machinery and
equipment during the production process.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- follow instructions and specifications at all times
- monitor production runs against quality and quantity specifications in line with organisational procedures and processes
- identify and deal with any irregularities in processing operations in line with agreed procedures
- use standard fault finding procedures to identify the causes of faults
- deal with defective products following agreed procedures
- make any necessary adjustments within process control limits and limits of own authority so that quality and quantity specifications are met
- return machinery and equipment to full production after rectifying faults
- ensure that all appropriate people are informed when machinery and equipment is returned to full production
- rectify faults and resolve problems with minimum disruption to production following agreed procedures
- report faults that are outside your area of responsibility to the appropriate person and make recommendations to prevent repetition of problems
- liaise with machine manufacturers when required in line with agreed procedures
- complete and store accurate records and documentation in line with agreed procedures
- work in line with organisational safety and production requirements at all times
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- how to receive and follow work instructions, making use of the information supplied to identify quality and quantity requirements
- how to carry out quality control checks within a production run and during tests
- own organisation's process control methods
- the procedures for dealing with defective or faulty products
- the technical tolerances of machinery and operating characteristics
- the characteristics of materials during production
- how to use fault finding principles and techniques to diagnose commonly occurring faults
- the sources of technical data on materials, equipment, machinery and processes
- the compatibility of machine and product, machine specifications and capabilities
- the implications of incorrect use of machinery operations within the production process
- how to resolve problems within the work area, and within limits of personal responsibility
- how your specific work activities relate to the whole process and the limits of own responsibility
- the importance of effective communication with colleagues, lines of communication, authority and reporting procedures
- the organisation's rules, codes and guidelines including timekeeping and personal hygiene
- own organisation's ethical and sustainability policies
- the types of records kept, how they are completed and the importance of accuracy
- the importance of complying with instructions, equipment operating procedures, safe working practices and manufacturers' instructions
- statutory responsibilities under health, safety and environmental legislation and regulations
