This standard is about contributing to the continuous improvement of operations.
This includes identifying opportunities for improvement, making recommendations for changes and improvements to work activities and processes, and taking corrective action.
This standard is for those who identify ways in which to improve work activities and contribute to overcoming operational problems.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- investigate operational problems and identify their causes
- obtain accurate and up-to-date information about work operations from relevant sources
- report problems in operations that affect production
- discuss suggestions and ideas for solving problems with relevant people
- make recommendations for improvements in accordance with organisational procedures
- identify potential results of recommended improvements
- gather relevant information to support proposed recommendations
- identify the resources needed to implement proposed improvements
- carry out allocated activities to implement improvements in work processes
- take corrective action within your own area of responsibility
- complete and store accurate records and documentation in line with specified procedures
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- how to receive and follow work instructions, making use of the information supplied
- the likely problems with work operations, their causes and the appropriate forms of corrective action to take to solve problems
- who to inform of problems and how to identify potential solutions
- the effects of downtime and wastage on operations
- the types of information needed to assess the nature of problems and where it can be obtained
- how to risk assess textiles machinery and equipment
- the implications of incorrect use of machinery operations within the production process
- sources of potential improvements to work operations and their implications
- how to support recommendations with appropriate information
- how and who to present findings and recommendations to
- the importance of achieving quality and its relation to the end users or customers
- how your specific work activities relate to the whole process and limits of own responsibility
- how to resolve problems within the work area, and within limits of personal responsibility
- how your specific work activities relate to the whole process and limits of own responsibility
- the importance of effective communication with colleagues, lines of communication, authority and reporting procedures
- the organisation's rules, codes and guidelines including timekeeping and personal hygiene
- the organisation's quality standards
