Overview
This standard is about carrying out day-to-day maintenance on production machinery and equipment.
This includes planning maintenance routines, carrying out maintenance, identifying faults and problems, rectifying these within the limits of own responsibility and referring those which are not and checking that machinery and equipment work to specification after faults are rectified.
This standard is for those who are responsible for the basic day-to-day maintenance of production machinery and equipment.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
interpret and work in line with work instructions and specifications
plan maintenance routines to maintain continuity of operations
- carry out maintenance of textile machinery and equipment following organisational guidelines
- check that machinery can be operated to required specifications
- use tools and materials in line with safety procedures
- obtain parts and materials from approved sources within the organisation
- dispose of waste in accordance with approved procedures
- identify problems with textile machinery and equipment using approved fault-finding techniques
- diagnose the cause of faults and rectify faults within the limits of own responsibility
- report faults outside own responsibility to others in line with maintenance procedures
- check that textile machinery and equipment operates to specification after rectifying faults
- complete and store accurate maintenance records and documentation in line with maintenance procedures

- how to receive work instructions and specifications and make use of the information
- how to plan work activities to maintain continuity of operations
- the routine maintenance procedures and schedules to follow
- how to obtain or order component parts of machinery and equipment
- how to read and respond to computerised diagnostics
- how to identify commonly occurring faults in textile machinery and equipment
- problems with production materials and how to rectify identified production issues
- the function of tools and their correct use
- how to test textile machinery and equipment after maintenance and fault rectification
- the implications of incorrect use of machinery operations within the production process
- how to resolve problems within the work area, and within limits of personal responsibility
- how your specific work activities relate to the whole process and the limits of your responsibility
- the importance of effective communication with colleagues, lines of communication, authority and reporting procedures
- the organisation's rules, codes and guidelines including timekeeping and personal hygiene
- the organisation's quality standards
- own organisation's ethical and sustainability policies
- the types of records kept, including maintenance, how are they completed and the importance of accuracy
- how to comply with instructions, equipment operating procedures, safe working practices and manufacturers' instructions
