This standard is about carrying out assessments and measurements for handcrafted, bespoke or orthopaedic footwear.
This includes working with clients to identify their requirements, measuring feet and ankles, prescribing corrections for mechanical foot problems and making and reworking casts.

Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- make sure the work area is free from hazards at all times
- identify clients' footwear aspirations and any fitting or walking difficulties at appropriate times
- seek information from reliable sources about any medical conditions that may put clients' feet at risk
- prescribe appropriate corrections for mechanical foot problems
- refer to qualified people when required
- take accurate measurements of clients' feet and ankles in line with foot measuring protocols
- take and rework casts until they are appropriate for client's requirements
- keep comprehensive records of all information relating to measurements and assessments in line with legislative requirements
- comply with written instructions relating to measurements and assessments
- complete required forms, records and other documentation
- work to legal requirements, standards and regulations, policies, procedures and professional codes at all times

- when to refer clients for medical assessment
- foot measuring protocols
- casting and rectifying techniques
- how to prescribe corrections for mechanical foot problems

- the organisation's policies about ethical production and sustainability
- the effects of wastage on operations and sustainability
- statutory responsibilities under health and safety and environmental legislation and regulations
- common hazards in the work area and workplace procedures for dealing with them
- manufacturers' instructions relating to equipment and materials for foot measuring and assessment including the use of personal protective equipment
