Repair and alter fashion and textiles products and materials
Overview
This standard is about taking responsibility for the repair and alteration of fashion and textiles materials and products. These may include clothing, household textiles, footwear, fabrics, trimmings or products for up-cycling such as bridal or vintage garments.
This job role may involve:
1. collecting, sorting and assessing potential repairable items
2. recycling or disposing of non-repairable items following company procedure
3. identifying suitable repair processes
4. identifying material types and aligning suitable repair processes
5. carrying out a range of different repair methods and techniques
6. understanding time and costs relating to repair of textiles items
7. compliance with social, economic and environmental principles of sustainability

P2 redirect unrepairable, reusable or recyclable items
P3 follow procedures for collection and storage of repairable items
P4 use personal protective clothing and equipment when handling and repairing items

P6 assess items and determine repairable / non repairable status
P7 assess cost and time related to the potential repair
P8 identify, secure and prepare resources required to carry out the repair
P9 carry out repairs to quality standards within given time scales
P10 operate machinery safely, following company procedure
P11 maintain a tidy and safe work environment
P12 adhere to health and safety polices and safe practices
P13 label completed repairs and alternations clearly
P14 record and store repaired and altered items in compliance with company procedur P15 identify plant, process and equipment, issues that may compromise the repair and
