Overview
This standard is about selecting, planning and implementing technology foresight processes to produce technology intelligence to support future technology awareness, strategy development and exploitation planning.
Technology foresight involves applying a range of technology scanning techniques to inform organisational technology strategies. These processes will help organisations to prioritise the identification, selection and adoption of the most relevant technologies aimed at adding value through improving the organisations products, services and business operations.
This includes developing emerging technology scanning and assessment processes as well as developing policy and decision-making frameworks to improve an organisations ability to make sense of, and react to, new technologies to improve products and services to boost future growth.
This standard is for those who develop, plan and implement technology foresight processes.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
identify the organisational business problems and workforce challenges that emerging technologies can help to resolve
identify the future capabilities required to successfully deliver organisational product and service strategies
identify technology trends and drivers to inform organisational technology and workforce skills planning
- implement horizon scanning processes that identify potential technologies and deliver regular foresight intelligence to the organisation
define the current workforce competencies and future skills paradigms associated required to enable organisational capability development
perform gap analysis of current technology provision compared with future capability needs to develop new technology strategies
- review the organisations innovation and operations processes to identify how they can best respond to new technology
- synthesise foresight inputs to generate and validate technology scenarios and impact assessments
- make recommendations on the technologies to prioritise, select and implement to optimise organisational performance
perform regulatory impact assessments and standardisation to determine priorities and assess
potential impacts to technology foresight proces scopedocument and communicate foresight processes, programmes and outcomes with senior management and other stakeholders on a regular basis

the organisation's technology footprint, growth plans, business drivers, strategy and competitive landscape
- the pull and push knowledge flows that need to occur between the commercial and technological functions within an organisation
- how to derive technological requirements from market opportunities
- the existing workforce structure, occupational profiles and changing skills requirements for adoption of new technologies
how regulatory policies and standards can constrain technology foresight processes and activities
how to derive skills requirements related to future technology adoption plans
- how to forecast trends based on the insights
- how to perform secondary market research by looking at online sources including annual reports, news aggregators, conference websites, project reports, interviews, podcasts and other sources of emergent technology diffusion materials
