Overview
This standard is concerned with carrying out commissioning of Telecoms or Radio Communication for sites where equipment installation and site acceptance testing has been successfully completed. This includes providing standard guidelines for commissioning of equipment.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- Agree commissioning dates and confirm with all parties
- Assess commissioning parameters according to specification
- Obtain and calibrate test equipment
- Produce a preliminary commissioning plan according to manufacturer's instructions and company guidelines
- Obtain permissions to proceed from relevant authority
- Complete installation procedures of telecoms or radio communication equipment
- Install applications software and data according to specification
- Undertake all specified performance tests to ensure operation meets all prescribed parameters and specifications as detailed in the original design brief
- Complete commissioning procedures with network management
- Test installed specific equipment features and operations administration maintenance system according to instructions
- Diagnose, repair or escalate faults detected
- Complete commissioning documentation in line with organisational standards
- Restore site in line with the organisation's standards
- Obtain commissioning completion sign-off from customer
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- The telecoms or radio communication equipment specifications and performance outcomes for the system being commissioned
- The factors involved in developing commissioning parameters
- The procedures to follow in creating commissioning plans
- The technical requirements involved in completing installation of telecoms or radio communication equipment
- The procedures to follow when undertaking tests of telecoms or radio communication equipment
- The importance of identifying and correcting performance defects and escalating these where appropriate
- Why it is necessary to obtain customer sign off for commissioning
- The procedures to follow to install applications software and data to newly installed telecoms or radio communications equipment
- The factors involved in diagnosing and repairing faults in telecoms or radio communication equipment
- The need to complete commissioning documentation as part of commissioning sign off
- The importance of restoring the site to the original state
