Overview

This standard is concerned with carrying out site acceptance testing of Telecoms or Radio Communication equipment. This includes the skills and knowledge required to ensure new system readiness by inspecting and testing equipment to confirm compliance and performance.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. Obtain all relevant installation and commissioning documents to enable verification that the installed system is as planned and specified
  2. Visually inspect the new installation to identify any noncompliance with relevant legislation, codes, regulations and standards
  3. Select and obtain appropriate test equipment to carry out relevant acceptance testing
  4. Prepare the acceptance schedule and test criteria in consultation with appropriate personnel
  5. Undertake and analyse performance tests to identify any failures to meet planned specifications and approved operating margins
  6. Test protection mechanisms to ensure their performance meets the specified standard
  7. Test alarm operation in line with organisational standards
  8. Refer any identified problems to appropriate personnel for remedial action
  9. Complete acceptance documentation and record all acceptance test procedures and results following organisational standards
  10. Obtain acceptance test sign-off in line with organisational standards

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. The need to read and interpret telecoms or radio communication instrument operating, installation and maintenance documentation
  2. The cabling, terminations and supporting structures that may be encountered in the system under inspection
  3. The procedures to follow to inspect Telecoms or Radio Communication installations for compliance with relevant legislation, codes, regulations and standards
  4. The factors involved in undertaking to performance tests on or Radio Communication installations
  5. The electrical and or optical properties to be measured and how to measure them
  6. The need to consider work place health and safety issues that impact testing systems and equipment
  7. The procedures to follow when using test equipment for acceptance testing
  8. The test methods that can be used to test system alarms
  9. The escalation process for dealing with any faults or other issues for remedial activity
