Overview

This standard is concerned with installing aerials and satellite receivers. It includes assembly and erection of towers, masts and associated Telecoms equipment.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. Obtain all required materials and equipment for aerial and satellite receivers in line with organisational procedures
  2. Check that equipment to be used for assembly and connection is in working condition and calibrated
  3. Undertake mechanical assembly and erection of telecom mast and tower structures to meet assembly requirements
  4. Erect aerial, antenna and satellite systems to the tower / mast according to alignment requirements and installation requirements
  5. Connect cabling and wiring harnesses to the aerial, antenna or satellite receiver assembly to meet requirements
  6. Carry out all work operations following organisational safety procedures and manufacturer's instructions
  7. Secure all required weather proof covers and connectors
  8. Carry out relevant tests on aerials, antennae and satellite receivers to check connectivity and signal strength
  9. Analyse test results to identify, and where possible rectify, any failures in connectivity
  10. Report any unrectified failures in connectivity following organisational procedures
  11. Record all work undertaken and test results to organisational standards

  1. How to prepare and read mechanical and electrical engineering drawings
  2. Mechanical assembly and associated techniques for telecom structures
  3. How to interpret electrical engineering drawings
  4. What the wiring colour codes used represent
  5. Cabling and connection techniques for fibre-optic cable
  6. How to carry out relevant tests on aerials, antennae and satellite receivers
  7. How conventionally deployed cable assemblies are implemented
  8. The optimum parameters and restrictions for siting aerial and satellite receivers
  9. The relevant legislation, standards, policies, and procedures followed in the company
  10. How to correctly identify installation and connection requirements for aerial and satellite receivers and their associated towers and masts
  11. The importance of recording all work and associated test results
