Overview

This standard is concerned with maintaining radio communication equipment. This includes radio communication equipment testing, fault finding and monitoring.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. Agree the response time for service level agreements with the customer
  2. Obtain current specification and drawings of the radio equipment to be maintained in line with organisational standards
  3. Arrange site access according to organisational procedures
  4. Use fault-finding methods and tests to diagnose faults in radio equipment in line with organisational procedures
  5. Assess options to rectify fault and inform customer of recommendations for fault rectification
  6. Conduct repair work following manufacturer's instructions and organisational standards
  7. Follow organisational procedures to report any unrectified faults
  8. Carry out tests to confirm the repair work resolves the fault being fixed
  9. Carry out maintenance work and testing operations following organisational safety procedures and manufacturer's instructions
  10. Record all maintenance work undertaken in line with organisational procedures

  1. Where to obtain radio communication instrument operating, installation and maintenance documentation
  2. Which radio communication instruments and field equipment are appropriate for a radio communication environment
  3. The procedure to follow for preparing, operating and maintaining radio communication instruments and field equipment
  4. The hazards associated with radio frequency (RF) radiation
  5. The role of anti-static precautions and how to apply them
  6. The functionality and main operating principles of radio transmitter equipment
  7. The functionality and main operating principles of radio receiver system
  8. The operation and purpose of radio system testing equipment
  9. How to interpret the meaning of various radio equipment test results
  10. The principles of performance testing and fault-finding techniques of radio communication equipment
  11. The organisation's procedures and standards for maintaining and repairing radio communication equipment
