URN: TECDT110244
Business Sectors (Suites): IT(Telecommunications)
Developed by: ODAG
Approved on: 2025

Overview

This standard defines the competencies required to integrate 5G technology with Internet of Things (IoT) systems, enhancing connectivity, scalability, and real-time data processing to support a wide range of applications. It includes planning, designing, implementing, and managing 5G-enabled IoT ecosystems, ensuring seamless integration with smart devices, sensors, industrial automation, and edge computing platforms to meet organisational and user requirements.

The standard also covers the role of 5G-enabled edge computing, which enables low-latency data processing at the network edge, reducing dependence on centralised cloud infrastructure and improving efficiency, security, and responsiveness in IoT deployments.

This standard is intended for professionals responsible for integrating 5G infrastructure with IoT systems, ensuring optimised performance, security, and reliability as part of their job role.

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. Assess the requirements for integrating IoT (Internet of Things) systems with 5G, to maintain scalability, security, energy efficiency, and alignment with organisational objectives.
  2. Configure and optimise 5G networks to support IoT connectivity, including frequency band selection, spectrum management, network slicing, and low-latency solutions.
  3. Integrate IoT devices, sensors, and platforms with 5G networks, to provide seamless data transmission, interoperability, and edge computing capabilities.
  4. Deploy and manage edge computing solutions to enhance real-time processing, reduce latency, and improve IoT performance over 5G networks.
  5. Conduct testing and validation of 5G-enabled IoT systems, to maintain compliance with organisational, technical, and performance standards.
  6. Monitor the performance of 5G-enabled IoT systems, using real-time analytics and network management tools to detect and resolve issues proactively.
  7. Optimise network resources, including bandwidth allocation, traffic prioritisation, and adaptive load balancing, to maintain efficient and reliable IoT service delivery.
  8. Implement cybersecurity measures, including encryption, authentication protocols, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and data protection mechanisms, to safeguard IoT devices and 5G network integrity.
  9. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for stakeholders to facilitate the effective operation, maintenance, and optimisation of 5G-enabled IoT systems.
  10. Maintain compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry standards for 5G and IoT systems, including data protection, privacy, and network neutrality requirements.
