What this standard is about

This standard is about supporting colleagues in implementing continuous improvement through the use of lean tools and techniques.

You will have experience of using lean tools and techniques so you can deliver training and support their use by others in your organisation.  You will monitor and encourage the use of these techniques to ensure their utilisation in continuous improvement across the organisation. You will encourage feedback from colleagues and bring others together to review and evaluate the process as part of the continuous improvement process.

Who is this standard for

This standard is for those who have responsibility for continuous improvement in their organisation with an understanding and experience of lean tools and techniques.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. Identify the needs of colleagues and the resources required to deliver effective training
  2. Support the implementation of a lean framework within own work area of responsibility
  3. Deliver training to colleagues to develop their understanding of lean tools and techniques
  4. Provide training to colleagues to develop their understanding of continuous improvement and the benefits to them and their work
  5. Provide support to colleagues as they prepare plans to roll out lean frameworks using tools and techniques which support continuous improvement
  6. Develop partnership working between colleagues within the organisation and across work areas to review processes and procedures
  7. Agree with colleagues a programme of progress reviews to monitor and review the implementation of the lean framework
  8. Evaluate the roll out of the lean framework making recommendations to support the sustainability of continuous improvement

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. The methods used to identify training needs within your organisation
  2. The resources and time needed to deliver training
  3. Methods of training used within your organisation and the ways of checking colleagues understanding
  4. Lean tools and techniques available or used within the organisation
  5. The benefits to individuals and the organisation of lean processes and their role in continuous improvement
  6. The implementation requirements of the lean framework within your organisation
  7. Levels of support and guidance available to colleagues as they prepare plans to roll out the lean framework to support continuous improvement
  8. When to seek advice from others to support the process
  9. How to develop working partnerships between colleagues to review processes and procedures
  10. The process for evaluating and making recommendations to support the sustainability of continuous improvement within the organisation
