Overview

This standard is about overseeing the setting up of automation and stage machinery. You will be required to oversee other's work, checking automation and stage machinery are set up and operating safely in line with the production plan and deal constructively with any issues and problems.
 
This standard is for Automation Heads of Department (HODs) or Technical managers involved with overseeing the set up of automation and stage machinery for theatre and live productions.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. use safe and secure handling, lifting and lowering techniques in line with legislation, organisational requirements and codes of practice
  2. give instruction to the people involved to set up automation and stage machinery
  3. monitor progress of work to set up automation and stage machinery
  4. identify and deal with any issues whilst overseeing set up in line with legislation, organisational requirements and codes of practice
  5. produce automation and stage machinery plots that can be reliably reproduced by another person and makes efficient use of the available resources
  6. use methods to achieve plot requirements that sustain and enhance the performance mood
  7. inform relevant people about any problems meeting performance requirements
  8. review plots at regular intervals and use this information to improve future performances
  9. maintain plot records in line with organisational requirements

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. legislation, organisational requirements and codes of practice concerning the setting up automation and stage machinery
  2. the types of issues that may occur when working with automation and stage machinery and how to deal with these
  3. the correct procedures and techniques for safe manual handling, lifting and lowering
  4. the importance of co-operation and communication with other staff while working and what might happen if you do not
  5. how to maintain working relationships with members of the technical team and why this is important
  6. why it is important to produce plots that can be reproduced by another person and how to do so
  7. the human and physical resources ~~that are~~ available to you and how to make best use of these
  8. how to interpret the specific cue sequence and ensure that the plot requirements support these
  9. the types of problems that may occur during performance
  10. the importance of reviewing and improving plots, who to do this with and how to learn lessons for the future
  11. how to maintain plot records in line with organisational requirements
