Overview
This standard is about repairing complex fibrous plaster components for use on a screen production. This will include a wide range of plasterwork, including dados, cornices skirtings, panels and arches.
This standard is for set craft and ornamental plasterers.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- interpret the design brief and instructions relating to the work to be undertaken and specific requirements for the set or location
- communicate the details of the design brief and agreed schedule with team members
- select tools, materials and equipment to undertake your work
- obtain the materials in the quantities required for repairing plasterwork components
- use personal protective equipment (PPE) when required
- remove unwanted components without causing damage to existing plasterwork
- replicate mouldings
- form and reinforce joints
- form internal and external returns and stop ends
- fit additional components in a secure and safe manner
- use tools and equipment safely and leave them in a safe and serviceable condition
- protect the work and its surrounding area from possible damage
- communicate with team members to ensure work produced meets the design brief
- dispose of waste in line with organisational procedures
- leave the work area in a clean and tidy condition
- comply with legal, statutory and organisational requirements to maintain safe work practices
- complete your work to maintain production schedules and meet the design brief

- how to obtain and interpret the design brief, instructions and the production schedule to undertake plasterwork repair activities
- the tools, equipment and materials required to undertake plasterwork repairs
- how to estimate the quantities of materials required to carry out the work
- the personal protective equipment that you need to use
- how to maintain tools, equipment and materials
- the methods used to repair plasterwork components to the standard required
- how to determine the best working methods and agree this with the appropriate team members
- who to communicate information regarding timescales, deadlines and productions schedule considerations to
- how to measure, calculate and mark out the plasterwork area accurately
- how to record measurements and store this information
- how to replicate mouldings in accordance with the design brief
- how to form and reinforce joints as required
- how to form internal and external returns and stop ends
- how to fit and secure components in a safe manner
