This standard is about originating and developing ideas for radio and audio content and applying creative thinking and storytelling techniques, as well as an understanding of the context or market for your ideas. It is about understanding the requirements of radio stations, productions and programmes and different genres, and identifying factors which have contributed to past successes or failures.
This standard covers using appropriate research methods, accessing reliable sources of information, and confirming that proposals are realisable within budget limits.

Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- establish the requirements of the radio station, production or programme, and the target audience
- originate and develop ideas for radio and audio content to meet production requirements, and appeal to the target audience across all relevant platforms
- use research methods to meet production requirements which comply with relevant legal and ethical constraints
- discuss and test initial ideas with others to develop proposals for radio and audio content
- develop detailed radio and audio content ideas to confirm that they can be realised within available resources and time frame
- identify determining factors for the success or failure of past radio and audio productions
- check available and accessible sources to verify the originality of ideas
- identify opportunities for visualisation and other ways to use an idea across multiple platforms

- the characteristics and preferences of the intended audience
- how to apply creative thinking and storytelling techniques to originate content ideas
