Overview
This standard is about your ability to assist with costume continuity and ensure consistent continuity is maintained on set.

This may involve ensuring costumes match the design specification throughout the shoot, ensuring that performers' dress matches the previous sequential take, agreeing alterations due to unscripted events during shooting, ensuring minimal interruptions to the production schedule and keeping accurate continuity records.
This standard may be applicable to costume supervisors, costume standbys and wardrobe/ costume assistants.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- check performers' dress against the costume breakdown
- ensure that the performers' dress at the commencement of shooting meets the design brief and matches the previous sequential take
- ensure that the performers' dress is not damaged or dirty and still meets the design brief at the end of the shoot
- pay attention to costume detail throughout the shoot and correct it if required
- agree changes when alterations are required as a result of unscripted events during the shoot
- consult with the relevant person(s) to identify the appropriate resources and equipment to record continuity
- minimise disruption to the production schedule when dressing or re-dressing performers for continuity
- follow on-set etiquette when maintaining continuity including rules on the use of mobile phones or other modes of communication
- obtain and record continuity information from reliable sources when not present at a take
- record relevant costume details using digital resources where possible
- consult with the supervisor on appropriate action to take when special effects raise health and safety issues
- follow the productions confidentiality rules and procedures
- keep complete, up-to-date, accurate and accessible records of costume continuity details
- communicate clearly with production staff and other relevant departments or individuals
- follow health and safety legislation and guidelines at all times

- the costume requirements of the design brief
- how to check performers' dress against the brief
- the industries 'on-set' etiquette procedures
- who is the relevant person with whom to check continuity maintenance and / or agree costume changes
- how to monitor script changes and assess the impact that this might have upon costume requirements
- methods for the recording and storage of continuity information
- how to take photographs or video that record costume detail
- access to the previous or existing continuity records
- the productions confidentiality rules procedures
- the productions communication protocol
- statutory responsibilities under health, safety and environmental legislation and regulations
