Overview
This standard is about combining and modifying materials to produce physical artwork. It is about identifying the design requirements and preparing artwork which fulfils the creative intention, with sufficient detail for their intended use. It covers identifying sources of materials to provide the intended visual image and it also covers the modification and manipulation of the materials. It describes the importance of artwork matching the technical requirements and style of the production.
This standard can be used by graphic artists when producing drawn props.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- identify the nature, style, content, and creative intention of the artwork
- use techniques appropriate for the style required for the production
- identify sources of materials to provide the required visual image
- select, combine, and modify materials to create the intended visual impact aesthetically within the production's style requirements and with consideration for environmental impact
- match the artwork with the technical requirements for production
- check and confirm that artwork clearly shows the visual effect intended at key stages
- incorporate artwork solutions which are realisable for the production
- present artwork or work in progress in the appropriate format and in sufficient detail for the intended use
- circulate artwork to the relevant people within agreed deadlines and budgets
- record agreed changes to artwork
- identify areas requiring clearances and approvals and make arrangements to obtain them

- design specifications and supporting information such as the nature, style, dynamic, content, and creative intention
- the selection and use of formal elements in drawings to meet design requirements and different visual effects
- the feasibility of solutions within production parameters
- the environmental impact and sustainability of artwork during and after production
- details required at different stages of design and realisation of solutions
- the importance of recording agreed changes to artwork clearly and accurately
- the importance of approvals and work in progress updates
- the selection and use of materials appropriate to meet production requirements and different visual effects
- sources of potential materials, and factors affecting the cost of materials
- how to combine and modify materials to create aesthetic artwork within production style requirements
