Overview
This standard is about determining the production requirements for designs to meet the brief.
This standard is also about determining what factors can impact on scheduling and budgeting designs and agreeing priorities and resources relating to scenes, locations and shooting schedules.
This standard is for those working in the Art Department.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
review and record keyi nformation from the production brief which could impact on scheduling, budgeting, and design
identify and agree priorities and resource implications with members of the production team
- evaluate key information relating to scenes, locations and shooting schedules
- identify the significance of each scene for inclusion in the schedules of requirements
- check with the production team when information about the production is incomplete or unclear
- confirm with decision makers which visual elements and resources are required and when, and inform those responsible for their acquisition
- identify functional elements such as props, scenic design, and specialist equipment
- assess and determine production resourcing
- plan how materials, personnel and other resources could be obtained and deployed in line with production requirements
- justify estimates of costs for the proposed design
- suggest and agree viable alternatives with the production team when design priorities change
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- how to identify design factors including: visual composition; concepts for key shots; mood and atmosphere of settings; lighting, colour; effects
- the technical implications for colleagues in the creative team
- how to identify, estimate and schedule production requirements and resources
- methods of obtaining and deploying resources using the script / format and scene breakdown
- the importance of considering the cost of studios and locations in relation to the design requirements
- the importance of agreeing the resources required with the relevant people within the timescales to allow your plans to take place
- script/format and scene breakdown and how these can help to identify and plan the work required and its costs
- the relationship between, and significance of, scenes and schedule shooting order
- the requirements of different types of functional elements such as props, scenic design, or specialist equipment
- how to identify, prioritise and agree design priorities
- the importance of working within and acknowledging copyright where the material, images or artwork of others is used
