Design and advise on intimate actions for performers on productions
Overview
This standard is about designing and advising intimate actions and movements during intimacy scenes on a production.
It will involve identifying and collaborating with key Heads of Department and the Director, regarding the use of intimacy on the production and how this will be approached and realised.
It will also involve preparing performers movements during workshops, identifying anchor points and body positions. You will be expected to advise and guide performers and crew on how to act during intimate scenes whilst working with the characteristics of the script and complying with legislation and protocols and consent agreements.
This standard is for Intimacy coordinators.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- design the movement and choreography to meet the intimate content required in line with consent agreements and parameters
- create intimate scenes that support the Director’s creative vision and maintain the performers’ boundaries
- communicate intimacy guidance to performers and crew
- communicate scene choreography to the relevant personnel
- convey to performers the director’s creative vision and how it may be achieved
- provide guidance and advise on key components of movement and choreography
- collaborate with, and support performers to meet the physical storytelling elements
- check that the materials requested to assist with intimacy are fit for purpose and in appropriate and compliant condition for use
- prepare cast and crew for the intimate actions to take place
- check and confirm ongoing consent levels as required
- suggest amendments or alternatives if the original concept is unworkable
- monitor performers and crew reactions to the intimate actions and provide breaks as required
- confirm with production that the intimacy requirements can be met
- provide records of actions and update the intimacy plan and risks for the production
- maintain records of agreement and consent in line with data protection legislation and production policies

- principles of anatomy and movement
- key components of movement such as breath, vocal sound, weight, time and space to create intimate choreography
- how to convey movement to performers and adapt language to meet their needs
- the importance of closed or restricted set protocols being in place and upheld on set
- how to assist in the scene’s choreography and continuity according to the script breakdown and production requirements
- the actor director process when creating intimate scenes
- how to facilitate intimate actions including camera tests
- the process of preparing materials to be used for the intimate content creation
- the process of preparing performers and crew for intimate actions
- the importance of preparing body double and stand ins
- how to relate the intimacy to the action in the scene
- the importance of using warm up and closure practices
- the legislation, policies and protocols relating to intimacy including consent
- who to report potential problems or difficulties to for the production
- the reports and updates. to intimacy plans and trackers that are required during production
