Rig static mounts for productions

This Standard is about rigging static mounts for a production.  It involves selecting the correct camera mount for the weight and balance of the camera, and for the production needs of the shot.

It is about selecting and assembling, or preparing, a suitable studio or location mounting, taking into consideration the dimensions and weights of the chosen camera and any additional camera accessories, to achieve the artistic, operational and technical requirements of the shot or shots.

This Standard is for anyone who rigs static mounts for a production.

1. select mounts that take account of the weight and balance of cameras
2. assemble static mounts in ways that allow for deficiencies in surfaces on which the mountings are being placed
3. place mounts in required positions
4. level mounts through 360º when required and ensure they are balanced
5. identify and check that all locking devices are functional, in place and work in line with manufacturers' instructions
6. assemble mounts in the order specified to avoid damage
7. assemble mounts in ways which will not endanger self or other people

8. report anything that hinders correct safe assembly using production reporting procedures

9. rig additional ropes, wires, ratchet straps and strops which secure cameras when working at height or in unstable conditions

10. check that mountings are secure when static mounts are left unattended or in adverse weather conditions
11. provide environmental protection for equipment and operators that is adequate and secure
12. rig static mounts in line with manual handling procedures
13. check pressures and observe safe working loads for parts or mountings that use gas or hydraulics in their operation
14. secure and protect equipment when not in use in line with manufacturers' instructions
