Overview
This standard is about developing and agreeing project parameters and monitoring and controlling work to ensure that desired creative outputs of appropriate quality are achieved whilst remaining within budgetary and resource constraints.
It includes prioritising activities, leading others, contingency planning and being responsive to change.
This standard could be used in all roles in the screen industries and also applies to wider creative industry roles for example theatre, live events, cultural heritage and design occupations.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- identify quality expectations and clarify any ambiguities for creative outputs
- identify budgets, timescales and resources for the project
- estimate equipment, materials and people required to meet the creative and technical demands of the project
- identify key milestones and plan how to achieve them
- secure people with the required skills for the work
- provide plans and seek feedback from the people involved
- confirm and agree arrangements for dealing with contingencies
- use information to compare progress against plans and schedules
- monitor activities and progress to help identify deviations from the original plans
- communicate changes to previously agreed plans as required
- suggest and agree solutions, when there are deviations from schedule and plans
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- how to find out about requirements including changes to previous plans
- approaches to quality assurance and what is required for the project
- the roles and responsibilities of the people involved and who the decision makers are
- the importance of understanding interdependencies and improving the quality of early dialogue
- the information required by different people at each stage
- the equipment required and any specific requirements relating to it
- the criteria and methods for assessing quantity and specification of materials
- ways to evaluate the performance of materials and equipment
- how and when to identify specialist skills, equipment or materials and where to source them
- the contracting and insurance requirements for the work and the processes to follow
- sources of information on progress
- how to monitor and check activities and progress
- ways of reaching agreement on roles and responsibilities
- how to identify actual and potential deviations from schedules and plans
- when to take control from others to resolve issues
- communication methods
- the kinds of contingencies which may arise and ways of dealing with them
- how to identify and evaluate the benefits and disadvantages of different ways cutting costs and saving time
- common causes of delays and how these may be avoided or accommodated
- expected processes and formats for presenting information and their interface with industry standard applications
- legislation and regulations including employment, health and safety, intellectual property rights and waivers and moral rights
