This standard is about creating a safe and secure storage system where each weapon, ammunition and propellants can be accounted for at all times.
This standard is for Armoury co-ordinators and Armoury supervisors.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- create a safe and secure storage system where each weapon, ammunition and explosives can be accounted for at all times
- confirm that the system created for safe and secure storage is appropriate for the level of resources contained
- provide documentation on the safe and legal storage of all weapons, ammunition, and propellants and who is liable for these
- verify that all licenses, certificates, and insurances are current and valid
- identify what each license holder is entitled to do to comply with legislation and protocols
- maintain safe working practices at all times
- confirm that the enforcing authorities have approved the alarm and security systems and that this information has been passed to the relevant bodies
- take all aspects of risk assessment and management into account and provide documentation to this effect
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- the nature of the weapons, ammunition, and propellants you are storing and the legislation and protocols around keeping them
- the legislation, licences, insurances, and health and safety requirements for the weapons, ammunition and propellants you are storing
- how to create and maintain a secure system for storing weapons, ammunition, and propellants
- the importance of all licenses being verified and current
- the alarm systems necessary to ensure maximum security
- how to liaise with the production as to the storage of weapons, ammunition, and propellants
the liaison protocols with local firearms officers and other relevant authorities
how to undertake and document a risk assessment
