Evaluate the outcomes and impact of coaching practice on sport and physical educational programmes
Overview
This standard is about the expertise required to review and evaluate the impact of sports coaching practices in an educational setting. You will engage with individuals and others to support, evaluate and measure the impact of using specific techniques and strategies. You will also be able to benchmark the individual’s performance against local and national standards to consider the future development of opportunities and threats.
This standard is for all sports coaches that have responsibility for a range of individuals in an educational setting.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- engage individuals and other stakeholders to support effective evaluation of programmes and practices
- demonstrate an unbiased approach to gain authentic evaluations from individuals and others
- gather evidence and analyse feedback in relation to the delivery and achievement of the intended outcomes.
- monitor needs, behaviours and expectations of individuals and evaluate their impact on intended outcomes
- benchmark performance and practices with comparable settings locally and nationally, where appropriate
- compare the strengths and weaknesses of your programme to respond to opportunities and threats in existing and future performance
- organise information, knowledge and evidence from practice in a way that supports the strategic planning and decision-making for future programmes
- explore and assess innovations, developments and lessons learnt to improve future programmes
- follow current legislation, guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols which are relevant to your work practice and to which you must adhere
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- how to engage individuals and programme stakeholders to support effective evaluation of programmes and practices and the impact this had on the intended outcomes
- your organisation’s performance and the factors that influence this
- the importance of individuals and stakeholders understanding the intended outcomes that need to be evaluated
- a range of appropriate methods to gather and analyse feedback, evidence and data
- how to analyse data and understand how that may impact on performance within the educational setting
- a range of methods to measure the impact of the strategies and interventions through analysis of key indicators
- theories of learning, teaching, coaching and reflective practice
- how to carry out benchmarking and analysis to identify good practice
- how to design and measure future programme goals and assess their implications
- the national trend, strategies and initiatives in sport and physical education settings
- current legislation, guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols which are relevant to your work practice and to which you must adhere
