Overview

This standard coexists alongside, *SKAHDBRBNST1 Implement and maintain safe, hygienic and effective working practices *and *SKAHDBRBNS1 Consult, assess, plan and prepare for Hair, Barbering, Beauty, Nails, Wellbeing and Holistic services. *This standard is for a nail professional providing nail services to enhance, maintain and repair cyanoacrylate nail enhancements. The cyanoacrylate nail enhancement service includes preparing the nails, shaping the nails, cuticle work and extending the natural nail through applying nail tips with a cyanoacrylate nail enhancement overlay. You will also be required to do a post procedure evaluation and reflection for continuous improvement. Users of this standard will need to ensure that their practices reflect up-to-date information, policies, procedures and best practice guidance. It is advisable users of this standard are aware of, and comply with first aid requirements in accordance with legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

The main outcomes are:

5.     obtain and record the individual's informed consent for the cyanoacrylate service

6.     prepare the individual's treatment area in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol, to include:

6.1 remove any existing product from the nail in accordance with the manufacturer instructions

7.     carry out a nail and skin analysis, to include:

8.     discuss and agree the cyanoacrylate service in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol

9.     confirm the desired nail length and shape with the individual

11.   prepare the cuticles in accordance with the manufacturer instructions

12.   use tools to remove cuticle from the visible nail plate without damaging the surrounding skin

13.   prepare the nail plate for the cyanoacrylate nail enhancement in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol

Applying the cyanoacrylate overlay for a natural nail repair

14.   apply resin leaving a free margin around the surrounding skin and allow to cure in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol

15.   customise, fit and apply the fabric/dip polymer powder to the nail to ensure correct product placement and shape, leaving a free margin around surrounding skin in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol, to include:

15.1 assess the need for a stress strip

16.   apply resin leaving a free margin around the surrounding skin and allow to cure in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol

Apply tips and cyanoacrylate nail enhancement overlays

17.   select and customise nail tips to suit the individual's natural nail in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol

18.   adhere the nail tip to the natural nail using nail adhesive in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol, to include:

18.1 cut and shape the free edge of the tips

18.2 blend the tips if required so they are undetectable ensuring there is no damage to the natural nail

19.   apply resin leaving a free margin around the surrounding skin and allow to cure in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol

20.   customise, fit and apply the fabric/dip polymer powder to the nail to ensure correct product placement and shape, leaving a free margin around surrounding skin, in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol 

21.   apply resin leaving a free margin around the surrounding skin and allow to dry, in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol

Finishing techniques

22.   use filing techniques to create the required balance, shape and length

23.   use buffing techniques to create a smooth even surface and shine

24.   monitor the individual's health, wellbeing and skin reaction throughout the cyanoacrylate service

25.   implement the correct course of action in the event of an adverse reaction

26.   conclude the service in accordance with the cyanoacrylate service protocol, legislative requirements and organisational policies and procedures

27.   complete the individual's service records and store in accordance with data legislation

28.   use reflective practice to evaluate the cyanoacrylate service and take appropriate action
