This standard coexists alongside,* SKAHDBRBNST1 Implement and maintain safe, hygienic and effective working practices *and **SKAHDBRBNS1 Consult, assess, plan and prepare for Hair, Barbering, Beauty, Nails, Wellbeing and Holistic services. This standard is for a nail professional providing nail services to cosmetically reconstruct a nail, when medical intervention is not required. The service includes preparing the nail, shaping the free edge, cuticle work, extending the natural nail through sculpting techniques using forms, monomer liquid and polymer powder and/or a UV cured nail product overlay. You will also be required to do a post procedure evaluation and reflection for continuous improvement. Users of this standard will need to ensure that their practices reflect up-to-date information, policies, procedures and best practice guidance. It is advisable users of this standard are aware of, and comply with first aid requirements in accordance with legislation and organisational policies and procedures.
The main outcomes are:
Carry out a cosmetic reconstruction of a nail service by sculpting the nail using monomer liquid and polymer powder and/or a UV cured nail product overlay
Maintain and repair a cosmetic reconstruction of the nail
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
1. carry out a concise and comprehensive consultation with the individual

6. prepare the individual's treatment area in accordance with the *service protocol, *to include:

12. use tools to remove the cuticle from the visible nail plate without damaging the surrounding skin
13. prepare the nail plate for the nail enhancement system in accordance with the service protocol
Sculpt using liquid and polymer powder on the finger nails
14. customise and fit the sculpting form to ensure no product comes into contact with the surrounding skin
15. use the required monomer liquid and polymer powder ratio in accordance with manufacturer instructions
16. apply the monomer liquid and polymer powder leaving a free margin from surrounding skin, to include:
16.1 create an artificial nail structure in accordance with the service protocol
17. use filing techniques to create the required balance, shape and length
18. use buffing techniques to create a smooth even surface and shine
Sculpt using UV cured nail products on the nails
19. prepare the UV equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions and legislative requirements
20. customise and fit the sculpting form to ensure no product comes into contact with the surrounding skin
21. select and apply the UV cured nail product to the nail plate leaving a free margin from surrounding skin, in accordance with the manufacturer instructions, to include:
21.1 create an artificial nail structure in accordance with the service protocol
22. cure the nails using the UV equipment for the duration in accordance with manufacturer instructions
23. remove the inhibition layer from the UV cured nail product surface
24. use filing techniques to create the required balance, shape and length
25. seal with a UV cured nail product overlay in accordance with manufacturer instructions
Maintain and repair cosmetic reconstruction of the nail enhancements
26. identify any damage to the nail enhancements, to include:
26.1 repair or replace the damaged nail enhancement
27. use nail maintenance techniques to restore the nail enhancement to its original condition
28. monitor the individual's health, wellbeing and skin reaction throughout the cosmetic reconstruction of the nail service
29. implement the correct course of action in the event of an adverse reaction
30. conclude the service in accordance with the service protocol, legislative requirements and organisational policies and procedures
31. complete the individual's service records and store in accordance with data legislation
