Assist with chemical services
Overview
This standard coexists alongside, SKAHDBRBNST1 *Implement and maintain safe, hygienic and effective working practices.* This standard is about a hair professional supporting senior staff during chemical services. Duties include preparing and maintaining the working environment, materials, tools and equipment and assisting within the service to promote speed and effectiveness. You will also be required to do a post procedure evaluation and reflection for continuous improvement. Users of this standard will need to ensure that their practices reflect up-to-date information, policies, procedures and best practice guidance.

2. discuss with senior staff, your role and responsibilities within the hair service, to include:
2.1 preparation details of equipment, tools, materials and products required in accordance with the hair service plan and manufacturer instructions
2.2 how you will assist during the hair service
2.3 the associated risks and how they can be avoided
Preparing for the service
3. prepare the working environment, tools and materials required, to include:
3.1 select products in accordance with your level of competence, manufacturer instructions and organisational policies and procedures
4. check with senior staff that preparation tasks have been fulfilled
Assisting within the service
5. prepare the individual in accordance with the hair service plan
6. assist with the handling, passing and replenishment of products and materials, as required
7. observe the techniques senior staff use when carrying out hair services, to include:
7.1 reflect on your knowledge and understanding and how each service differs depending on the individual's needs
8. support the individual's comfort and care through hospitality services
9. check with senior staff that assisting tasks within the service have been fulfilled
10. observe senior staff removing chemical hair products from the hair
11. carry out shampoo and/or conditioning treatment in accordance with the manufacturer instructions
12. conclude the service in accordance with the service plan
13. confirm verbally with the individual they are satisfied with the final result
14. monitor the individual's health and wellbeing throughout the hair service
15. implement the correct course of action in the event of an adverse reaction
16. update the individual's records and store in accordance with data legislation
17. provide instructions and advice to the individual, post the service
18. use reflective practice to evaluate the hair service and take appropriate action, to include:
18.1 receiving feedback from the individual and peers
19. record the outcome and evaluation of the hair service
