Style long hair using basic techniques
Overview
This standard is about Assistant Hairdressers and Barbers carrying out a styling long hair using basic techniques service, whilst under the supervision of a senior member of staff. Whilst using this standard and in accordance with the job role, responsibilities for the relevant health and safety legislation/regulations, manufacturers and the supervising member of staff’s instructions, must be maintained. Personal development and areas for improvement will be discussed with the supervising member of staff following completion of the service.

2. Maintain your responsibilities for health and safety in accordance

3. Prepare and protect yourself ready to undertake a styling long hair
using basic techniques service
4. Prepare the working area tools, equipment, products for a long hair styling service
5. Prepare the individual as instructed by a senior member of staff
6. Observe a senior member of staff whilst they carry out a
consultation, taking into consideration hair classification,
characteristics and the state of hair
7. Discuss with a senior staff member the tools, equipment,
products and techniques appropriate for the styling long hair
8. Prepare the hair for styling in accordance with the senior staff
member instructions
9. Carry out appropriate styling techniques to achieve the chosen
style under the supervision of a senior staff member
10. Work methodically ensuring even tension is maintained where
required
11. Use tools and equipment correctly to avoid damage to the hair and
scalp
12. Use tools, equipment, styling and finishing products
in line with manufacturers and senior staff instructions
13. Clean work surfaces following completion of the service, leaving the
work area in a suitable condition in preparation for the next service
14. Dispose of waste materials
15. Replenish low levels of resources, when required, to minimise
disruption to your own work and individuals
16. Discuss your development and areas for improvement with a senior
member of staff

Supervising members of staff - a qualified member of staff whom is a Stylist, Barber, Manager, Mentor, Tutor/Educator, For Customer service tasks this may also be a Receptionist

Responsibilities - having a duty to deal with something eg working safely to avoid risk to others

Tension – The amount of force used to hold hair while carrying out a range of services eg shampooing, drying, styling, cutting hair, colouring.
Contact dermatitis – inflammation of the skin (redness, itchy, dry, cracked) when it comes into contact with a particular substance when carrying out a range of services eg Shampooing, Styling, chemical treatments
