Overview

​This standard is about evaluating your personal and professional development needs. You will be required to demonstrate that you can discuss and agree personal and professional work objectives with those you report to. You will also undertake development activities in accordance with your personal and organisation objectives.

This standard is for all staff working in health and fitness, sport and outdoor activity environments.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. evaluate at appropriate intervals the current and future requirements of your work role taking into account the objectives of your organisation

  2. identify information which is relevant to your work role and professional development

  3. identify any gaps between the requirements of your job role and your current knowledge, skills and behaviours

  4. share your conclusions with others, taking account of their feedback

  5. develop a personal development plan that will help you address any gaps in your knowledge, skills, behaviours and support your own career and personal goals. 

  6. undertake the activities identified in your development plan

  7. evaluate with others how well your development activities have met your organisational and own development needs

8. review and update your development plan based on your performance and further development needs

  1. maintain your own Continuing Professional Development

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. the current legislation, guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols which are relevant to your work practice and to which you must adhere
2. the principles of undertaking professional development 3. the importance of taking into account your organisations objectives when evaluating your performance 4. how to analysis your current and future work role and identify any gaps between these requirements and your knowledge, skills and behaviours 5. when to discuss your work with others and take account of their views 6. how to identify objectives which are SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound) 7. how to design and implement an effective development plan 8. the types of development activities that are available to you 9. how to analyse how well your development activities has contributed to your overall objectives 10. how to review and update your development plan in light of your performance 11. the importance of undertaking and maintaining continual professional development
