Overview

This standard is about providing specialist skin camouflage services to address a wide range of conditions, to restore the skin's colouring to match the unaffected skin tone. It also covers the use of a variety of specialist camouflage products, together with client instruction in the application, maintenance and removal of their own skin camouflage.

To carry out this standard you will need to maintain effective health, safety and hygiene throughout your work. You will also need to maintain your personal appearance and demonstrate effective communication and consultation skills.

  7. ensure the client's records are completed and signed by you and the client

Instruct and advise the client on skin camouflage techniques

Scar tissue that is lower than the surrounding skin; an indented scar.

Redness to the skin caused by irritation, or injury to the tissue.

Fitzpatrick Classification System

Devised in 1975 at Harvard University, this is a skin classification system, measured on a scale of 1 to 6, based on photosensitivity reaction to ultra violet radiation.

Hypertrophic scar tissue

Scar tissue that is higher than the surrounding skin; a protruding scar.

Hyperpigmentation

Excessive colouration in comparison to the surrounding skin due to excess melanin (for example age spots, freckles, stretch marks, sun tan, melasma and chloasma).

Hypopigmentation

Loss of colouration in comparison to the surrounding skin area (for example leucoderma, stretch marks, scarring, vitiligo).
