Overview

This NOS sets out the skills, knowledge and understanding for you to maintain security of consignments.

The NOS covers the following activities:

  1. Maintain security when driving cash and valuables in transit vehicles

  2. Maintain security during transfer of cash and valuables

  3. Maintain security at customers' premises

his NOS is aimed at people providing a cash and valuables transit service.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

Maintain security when driving cash and valuables in transit vehicles

  1. maintain vigilance at all times, reporting any suspicious activity in line with company procedures

  2. take routes to and from customers location, that avoid establishing a pattern, and known risk situations

  3. take breaks from driving in accordance with pre-arranged schedule, and at frequencies that comply with relevant driving legislation

  4. park vehicles at locations that do not compromise the safety of consignments, yourself, colleagues, customers, pedestrians and other road users

  5. park vehicles as close as possible to customer’s premises, in positions that maintain line of sight between vehicle and delivery point and where emergency escape routes are available

  6. make sure that only authorised persons enter vehicles

  7. communicate with branch or depot in line with company procedures in the event of unauthorised stops

  8. maintain constant communication with your branch or depot using approved company procedures

  9. take appropriate action when safety or security are compromised in line with company procedures

10. use designated security equipment for carrying consignments across pavements

  1. maintain vigilance at all times, reporting any suspicious activity in line with company procedures

  2. confirm operational equipment is functioning as per company procedures

  3. comply with company procedures relating to maximum values that can be carried across pavements

  4. wear relevant items of personal protective equipment, properly adjusted, as specified in company procedures

  5. maintain constant communication with colleagues, using approved company procedures

  6. take appropriate action where your safety or security is compromised as specified in company procedures

  1. confirm your identity to customer representatives as per company procedures

  2. carry out transactions with customers as specified in company procedures

  3. maintain communication with colleagues during transactions as in company procedures

  5. wear appropriate personal protective equipment, properly adjusted, as specified in company procedures

  6. take appropriate action where your safety or security is compromised in line with company procedures

  1. the legal, safety and operating requirements for driving, including drivers hours regulations

  2. where to park vehicles in order to protect the safety of consignments, yourself, colleagues, pedestrians and other road users 

  3. company procedures relating to unauthorised stops or breaks

4. how to operate designated security equipment used to carry consignments across pavements

  1. the characteristics and operation of different types of containers

  2. what items of personal protective equipment should be worn, when operational

  3. your company procedures relating to insurance limits and maximum values to be carried across pavements

  4. how to communicate with colleagues

  5. your company procedures for communicating while operational

  6. the geography of customers’ locations 

  7. how to carry out transactions with customers quickly and efficiently

  8. the importance of observation, intelligence gathering and maintaining vigilance at all times, and your company procedures for recording and reporting this information

  9. how to verify the identity of authorised people wishing to enter or re-enter vehicles

  10. how to correctly identify authorised people at customers’ premises

  11. how to recognise signs of suspicious activity, and what actions you should take when you believe that person is acting suspiciously

  12. your company procedures for reporting actual and potential breaches of security

  13. who to contact in the event of an emergency situation following your company procedures

  14. when it is necessary for you to contact the emergency services, and the procedures for doing so
