Overview

​This NOS sets out the skills, knowledge and understanding for you to transport cash and valuables. 


This NOS is aimed at people providing a cash and valuables transit service.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:


  1. assess the most appropriate way to move loads in line with safety procedures

  2. wear appropriate personal protective equipment, properly adjusted, as specified in company procedures 

  3. handle loads manually in line with safe manual handling procedures

  4. obtain help from relevant people, when you are unable to move loads by yourself

  5. check that equipment needed to move loads is available, and is in working order

  6. use equipment you are authorised to use, and for which you have received appropriate training

  7. operate equipment in line with manufacturers’ instructions, and with regard to the health and safety of yourself and others

  8. place loads in a secure and safe location as specified in company procedures

  9. report any discrepancies with loads to appropriate people

  10. report faults with equipment without delay, and to appropriate people, in line with company procedures

  11. complete any required documentation relating to the use of equipment, in line with company procedures



Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:


  1. company procedures for manual handling of loads, and when you should request help from other people

  2. the impact that loads will have on vehicle handling

  3. what items of personal protective equipment you should wear, both inside and outside the vehicle

  4. how to ensure that personal protective equipment is properly adjusted in order to maintain your safety and security

  5. where to position loads once they have been lifted in order to maintain their security during transportation 

  6. company procedures for reporting any discrepancies with loads

  7. how to lift loads in line with safe manual handling procedures

  8. what action you should take if loads are damaged

  9. what action you should take in the event of incomplete collection or delivery details

  10. limits of your responsibility and autonomy to use equipment

  11. people to whom faults with equipment should be reported, and the documentation that is required

  12. why it is important to only use equipment for which you have been trained

  13. the legal implications of misuse of equipment

  14. the health and safety implications to other people whilst you are using equipment

  15. what action you should take if loads are damaged

  16. what action you should take in the event of incomplete collection or delivery details
