Overview

This NOS sets out the skills, knowledge and understanding for you to prepare for the start of duties. 


The NOS covers the following activities:

  1. Collect, check and confirm operational status of vehicles and equipment

  2. Prepare to make collections and deliveries

  3. Load cash and valuables in transit vehicles


This NOS is aimed at people providing a cash and valuables transit service.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

**Collect, check and confirm operational status of vehicles and equipment​**
1. verify that all relevant aspects of the vehicle comply with relevant legal and safety operating requirements and **restrictions** 2. check vehicles and equipment for any damage or maintenance defects, in line with operational and company procedures 3. top up, or replace all **vehicle consumables** when they are not at the required levels, or in the required condition 4. verify the operational condition of safety equipment and **vehicle security systems** 5. report and record any identified **hazards** to appropriate people using approved company procedures and documentation 6. report and record any identified defects with vehicles, safety equipment and **vehicle security system****s** to appropriate people using approved company procedures and documentation 7. rectify identified faults with vehicles, safety equipment and **vehicle security systems** that are within the limits of your own responsibility and authority and company procedures 8. maintain safety of self and others as specified in company procedures whilst collecting, checking and confirming operational status of vehicles and equipment 9. complete all pre-journey documentation in line with company procedures ** Prepare to make collections and deliveries ** 10. obtain sufficient **relevant information** for each day’s route, collections and deliveries 11. check that you are in receipt of sufficient stocks of documentation, supplies and equipment required for each day’s duty 12. wear relevant items of personal protective equipment, properly adjusted, as specified in company procedures 13. check that you have required identification documentation before leaving the depot 14. deal with any problems with preparations that are within the limits of your authority and responsibility, in accordance with company procedures 15. report any problems with preparations that you cannot deal with, in accordance with company procedures ** Load cash and valuables in transit vehicles ** 16. obtain authorisation from appropriate people before entering secure loading area 17. position vehicles within the secure loading area in a way that protects the health and safety of colleagues 18. wear appropriate personal protective equipment, properly adjusted, as specified in company guidelines 19. place items in a safe and secure location on vehicles, and in an order efficient for the trip being undertaken 20. distribute loads within manufacturers weight distribution recommendations 21. use appropriate load restraints to prevent movement of loads during transport when required 22. take appropriate and approved action when discrepancies during loading are identified 23. complete relevant loading documentation with accurate, legible information 24. obtain required signatures to confirm transfer of responsibility of loads 25. submit loading documentation in accordance with company procedures 26. comply with all relevant company, legal, safety and operating requirements

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

Collect, check and confirm operational status of vehicles and equipment

  1. how to identify the type of vehicle and the equipment that is needed for each day’s duties and routes

  2. how to check vehicles and equipment for damage

  3. implications in  relation to vehicle weight, vehicle dimensions and vehicle emissions 

  4. the limit of your own authority and responsibility to remedy identified faults in vehicles, security systems and equipment

  5. operational and company procedures for reporting and recording identified faults with vehicles, security systems and equipment

  6. documentation that you are required to complete at the start of your day’s duties and the information that is required

  7. checks that need to be made to vehicles, security systems and equipment

  8. relevant legal and safety operating requirements, regulation and codes of practice related to pre-journey inspections

  9. how to maintain the safety of self and others, and what actions you should take in the event of risks to safety

  1. how to interpret information relating to the route including the order of stops, what information needs to be collected or delivered at each stop and arrangements for breaks

  4. what items of identification documentation you are required to carry when making collections and deliveries, and what action you should take if you are not in receipt of these documents

  5. company procedures for reporting and who you should report problems with preparations to

  6. the limits of your own authority and responsibility
