This NOS is aimed at CCTV managers and sets out the skills, knowledge and understanding for you to ensure the information collected through CCTV meets requirements. Information could be for police, statutory prosecuting agencies, insurance companies or private clients.
This NOS covers the following activities:

Performance criteria
You must be able to:

- make sure CCTV systems produce images of the quality required by the clients with which you work
- make sure processes for the treatment of evidential material meet the requirements of organisations to which it may be supplied
- make sure information is collected through ethical and legal methods in line with relevant legislation, codes of practice and standards
- make sure processes to evaluate and assess risk, accuracy and grading of information are followed by relevant people
- develop clear protocols regarding access to information depending on level of requirement

7. supervise access to evidential material by relevant people in line with agreed protocols
8. make sure operators understand and follow the requirements for the confidentiality, integrity, availability and treatment of evidence
9. make sure the provenance of information is recorded in relevant documents as specified in processes and protocols
10. make sure information is submitted to appropriate people using recognised methods of submission
11. make sure information is submitted at appropriate times and in appropriate formats for recipients
Knowledge and Understanding

- current legislation, policies, procedures, codes of practice, standards and guidelines in relation to gathering, submitting, retaining, recording and disseminating evidence, information sharing and data and system security
- relevant aspects of organisational and law enforcement objectives, control strategy, intelligence requirements, and local, regional and national objectives
- how confidentiality, integrity and availability contribute to the security of information
- how to determine suitable image quality requirements
- the functions and operational characteristics of your system that can affect image quality
- the requirements of your clients with relation to the quality and treatment of evidential material and undisclosed evidential material
- why it is important that systems are regularly maintained
- the purpose and importance of risk assessments and how to conduct them
- the adverse effect of collecting excessive data and Privacy Impact Assessments
- the restrictions that apply to the dissemination and disclosure of confidential information
- key features of the intelligence model used in your organisation and the management of information in your area of work
- how to identify information with potential to support law enforcement objectives
- where and who to pass information onto
- how to assess and evaluate information
- what to do when the evaluation of information requires immediate action
- the principles of audit trails and reasons why the integrity and continuity of information must be maintained
- how to distinguish between information and evidence and the procedures to follow

- why it is important that operators are trained in requirements
