Monitor returned goods
Overview
This standard is about monitoring returned goods. It involves collating and analysing information regarding the flow of returned goods and identifying problems. It also includes providing the results of the analysis and making recommendations to colleagues and key stakeholders.
This standard is relevant to all those who are responsible for monitoring returned goods as part of their job role.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
1 maintain the health and safety of yourself and others at all times, in line with the relevant legislation and organisational requirements
2 identify hazards and assess risks as you carry out the activity and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), where required
3 confirm that the relevant training has been received to carry out the work, recognise the limits of your competence and seek access to further training where required
4 obtain the relevant information on the goods being returned in order to monitor their progress
5 maintain effective communication with colleagues and key stakeholders throughout the monitoring process, in line with organisational procedures
6 identify and handle issues with the flow of returned goods within the scope and limitations of your own responsibilities and competence, and report issues which cannot be resolved, in line with organisational procedures
7 collate and prepare information on the flow of returned goods for analysis – from receipt to final destination
8 analyse and evaluate information on the flow of returned goods
9 provide the results of the monitoring to colleagues and key stakeholders in line with organisational procedures, and recommend options for improvement
10 promote responsibility for the environment and sustainability within the organisation and communicate and implement this when recommending improvements to the flow of returned goods
11 maintain and store the required records in line with relevant legal and organisational requirements
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
1 your responsibilities under the relevant health and safety legislation and organisational requirements
2 how to identify hazards and assess risks as you carry out the activity and the requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE)
3 your organisation’s aims, objectives, processes and procedures in relation to the return of goods

7 the relevant methods and procedures for evaluating information on the flow of returned goods
8 how to identify and handle issues that may occur with the flow of returned goods
9 the types of communication methods used by your organisation to communicate with colleagues and key stakeholders
10 the organisation’s responsibilities for protecting the environment and working sustainably when dealing with returned goods
