This standard is about selecting service providers for transporting goods in international trade and logistics operations. You will need to understand the relevant national and international legislation for transporting goods and any special requirements needed by the goods being transported.
You will also need to be able to communicate with the appropriate people and resolve any issues that may occur when selecting service providers within your responsibility.
This standard can be applied to any mode of transport or combination of modes, i.e., road, rail, air, sea or waterway.
This standard is for those responsible for arranging the transportation of goods in international trade and logistics operations.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
Review all relevant transportation instructions and details of the goods being transported
Confirm the organisational criteria for selecting service providers to transport the goods using the selected transportation routes and methods
- Identify potential service providers who meet the organisational criteria for transporting goods, in line with the customer requirements
- Obtain information on the rates, terms and conditions offered by the service providers
- Confirm with the service providers that they will transport the goods according to the customer's requirements
- Select service providers to transport the goods according to the established organisational criteria
- Identify any problems with the service providers and take the appropriate action to deal with these
- Report work activities and record them in the appropriate information systems in accordance with the relevant statutory, regulatory, legislative and organisational procedures
- Comply with all the relevant health and safety, environmental, ethical, legislative, regulatory standards and organisational procedures
