Performance criteria
You must be able to:
Consider the environmental impact when selecting air transport as opposed to alternative modes
Review all relevant transportation instructions and details of the goods
- being transported by air
- Calculate air freight prices and prepare quotes for customers
- Review the contract of carriage to ensure compliance when arranging the transportation of goods by air
- Plan and book cargo space on air services in accordance with air cargo booking procedures
- Complete national and international transit documentation for transportation by air, in accordance with legal, regulatory and organisational requirements
- Confirm that instructions for air transportation are accurate, complete and provided in the correct documentation and systems
- Confirm that any special requirements or instructions are clearly specified
- Provide relevant information to all those involved with the transportation of goods by air
- Provide instructions on marking, labelling, packaging and the segregation of goods, as per the contract
- Obtain information on how to monitor the transportation of goods by air
- Monitor the progress of arranging the transportation of goods by air
- Identify any issues with arranging the transportation of goods by air and take the appropriate action to deal with these
- Inform the customer of any delays, allowing a suitable amount of time to respond to the delay
- Contact the relevant supervisor or senior colleague if the issues identified cannot be resolved
- Check that the transport documentation is retained in line with the relevant statutory, regulatory, legislative and organisational requirements
- Report work activities and record them in the appropriate information systems in accordance with the relevant statutory, regulatory, legislative and organisational procedures
- Comply with all relevant health and safety, environmental, ethical, legislative, regulatory standards and organisational procedures when transporting goods by air
