Overview

This standard is about coordinating international road transport operations. 

It involves obtaining information on the vehicle, the load, the goods being transported and the driver requirements in order to produce documentation for the movement of loads outside of, into and out of the United Kingdom. It also requires an understanding of the relevant legislation relating to the transporting of goods and driver requirements in the UK and internationally. This will include the legislation and requirements for transporting goods for relevant European Union (EU) and non-European Union (EU) countries.

This standard is relevant to all those who are responsible for coordinating international road transport operations as part of their job role.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

1.    maintain the health and safety of yourself and others at all times, in line with the relevant legislation and organisational requirements
2.    identify hazards and assess risks as you carry out the activity and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), where required
3.    confirm that the relevant training has been received to carry out the work, recognise the limits of your competence and seek access to further training where required
4.    obtain the relevant information concerning the loads to be transported into and out of the United Kingdom
5.    obtain information on driver, vehicle and load requirements relating to the international movement of goods, including the relevant costs
6.    confirm the relevant legislation, regulation and codes of practice for international road transport operations, including EU and non-EU countries, as well as the organisational procedures
7.    obtain the relevant documentation for the international movement of loads by road
8.    record information on the international movement of loads and road transport operations and communicate this to colleagues, customers and the relevant authorities
9.    confirm the allocation of resources for international road transport operations
10.    issue instructions and the relevant documentation relating to the international movement of loads to the required personnel
11.    confirm that the movement of loads is in compliance with the relevant
legislation, regulation and codes of practice for international road transport operations, including EU and non-EU countries, and organisational procedures
12.    co-ordinate and monitor the international movement of loads and maintain records in accordance with relevant legal requirements and organisational procedures
13.    resolve and take action to minimise issues with the international movement of loads by road
14.    make use of telematics in the coordination of international movement of loads by road
15.    comply with the organisational procedures and the relevant legal, safety and operating requirements 
16.    communicate with colleagues and personnel in the supply chain throughout international road transport operations
