Overview

This standard is about co-ordinating international road transport operations.  It involves obtaining information on the vehicle, the load, the goods being transported and the driver requirements in order to produce documentation for the movement of loads outside, into and out of the United Kingdom. It also requires an understanding of the relevant legislation relating to the transporting of goods and driver requirements in the UK and internationally.  This will include the legislation and requirements for transporting goods for the relevant  European Union and non-European Union countries.

This standard is relevant to all those working in logistics operations with responsibility for co-ordinating road transport operations or freight forwarding.


Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. obtain the relevant information concerning the loads to be transported into and out of the United Kingdom

  2. obtain information on driver, vehicle and load requirements relating to the international movement of goods, including the relevant costs

  3. confirm the relevant legislation, regulation and codes of practice for international road transport operations as well as the organisational procedures
  4. obtain the relevant documentation for the international movement of loads by road
  5. record information on the international movement of loads and road transport operations and communicate this to colleagues, customers and the relevant authorities
  6. confirm the allocation of resources for international road transport operations
  7. issue instructions and the relevant documentation relating to the international movement of loads, to the required personnel
  8. confirm that the movement of loads is in compliance with the relevant
  9. legislation, regulation and codes of practice for international road transport operations and organisational procedures
  10. co-ordinate and monitor the international movement of loads and maintain records in accordance with the organisational procedures
  11. resolve and take action to minimise issues with the international movement of loads by road
  12. make use of telematics in the coordination of international movement of loads by road
  13. comply with the organisational procedures and the relevant legal, safety and operating requirements
  14. communicate with colleagues and the personnel in the supply chain throughout international road transport operations
