Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- comply with relevant health and safety legislation and requirements at all times
- develop methods of work and safe systems of work following standard operating procedures
- check work is completed in ways which reduce Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) following standard operating procedures and safe systems of work
- use and maintain noise control devices following standard operating procedures and safe systems of work
- manage personal protective and control measures following standard operating procedures and safe systems of work
- manage portable appliance (PAT) and fixed installation testing requirements in accordance with legislation
- comply with display screen equipment (DSE) requirements in accordance with legislation
- check all employees comply with display screen equipment (DSE) requirements in accordance with legislation
- check all employees comply with working at height regulations
- check your organisation complies with the first aid regulations at all times
- report any near misses, incidents or accidents following legal requirements

You need to know and understand:
- your personal health and safety responsibilities
- personal protective equipment you must wear and why
- how to use personal protective equipment
- respiratory protective equipment you must wear and why
- how to use respiratory protective equipment
- how to maintain personal protective equipment, respiratory protective equipment and hearing protection
- measures in place to prevent Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs)
- why you need to report any symptoms of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) early
- noise control measures in place
- symptoms and early signs of hearing loss
- causes of hand-arm vibration
- measures in place to prevent hand-arm vibration
- tools and equipment that can cause ill health from vibration
- portable appliance testing (PAT) and fixed installation testing requirements
