​This standard covers the skills and knowledge required to manage occupational health requirements in wood occupations.

It covers:

Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. ​comply with relevant health and safety legislation and requirements at all times
  2. develop methods of work and safe systems of work following standard operating procedures
  3. check work is completed in ways which reduce Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) following standard operating procedures and safe systems of work
  4. use and maintain noise control devices following standard operating procedures and safe systems of work
  5. manage personal protective and control measures following standard operating procedures and safe systems of work
  6. manage portable appliance (PAT) and fixed installation testing requirements in accordance with legislation
  7. comply with display screen equipment (DSE) requirements in accordance with legislation
  8. check all employees comply with display screen equipment (DSE) requirements in accordance with legislation
  9. check all employees comply with working at height regulations
  10. check your organisation complies with the first aid regulations at all times
  11. report any near misses, incidents or accidents following legal requirements

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. your personal health and safety responsibilities
  2. personal protective equipment you must wear and why
  3. how to use personal protective equipment
  4. respiratory protective equipment you must wear and why
  5. how to use respiratory protective equipment
  6. how to maintain personal protective equipment, respiratory protective equipment and hearing protection
  7. measures in place to prevent Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs)
  8. why you need to report any symptoms of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) early
  9. noise control measures in place
  10. symptoms and early signs of hearing loss
  11. causes of hand-arm vibration
  12. measures in place to prevent hand-arm vibration
  13. tools and equipment that can cause ill health from vibration
  14. portable appliance testing (PAT) and fixed installation testing requirements
  15. display screen equipment (DSE) requirements
  16. working at height regulations
  17. first aid regulations
  18. near misses, incidents or accidents that need to be reported and why
