As part of managing the health and safety employers must control the risks in the workplace. This covers what might cause harm to people and taking reasonable steps to prevent that harm. This is known as risk assessment and it is something required by law.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- locate risk assessments related to your role following standard operating procedures
- follow any instructions and training given regarding the measures in place to control health and safety risks
- co-operate with employer and co-workers to meet health and safety legal requirements following standard operating procedures
- contribute to the risk assessment development process following standard operating procedures
- contribute to the risk assessment review process following standard operating procedures
- follow methods of work and safe systems of work at all times
- use control measures identified in risk assessments following standard operating procedures
