Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. identify appropriate sources of information and advise on latest developments in health and safety following standard operating procedures
  2. evaluate impacts on your organisation of developments in health and safety legislation, policies and practices following industry best practice
  3. present best practice and new developments in health and safety to your organisation following industry best practice
  4. contribute to appropriate professional technical groups to enhance the development of health and safety following industry best practice
  5. maintain your continuous professional development following standard operating procedures  
  6. identify appropriate opportunities to participate in professional discussions and reviews on best practice in health and safety matters
  7. contribute to appropriate groups and committees engaged in developing health and safety practice
  8. influence policies and practices of appropriate professional organisations and groups on health and safety matters following standard operating procedures
  9. exchange health and safety best practice with colleagues through meetings, publications, conferences and other appropriate methods following standard operating procedures

Knowledge and Understanding

You need to know and understand:

  1. sources of relevant information and advice on health and safety matters
  2. effective communication methods
  3. appropriate professional, non-professional and technical groups and organisations
  4. level of relevant statutory duties and interpretation of 'so far as is reasonably practicable' when considering improvements to health and safety
