Correct machine faults

This standard is about keeping equipment and machinery in efficient working order and correcting faults. It includes identifying and rectifying problems, reducing waste and pollution, involving others in your work and reporting your actions to appropriate colleagues.

1. obtain accurate information from reliable sources about problems with equipment and machinery
2. analyse information from reliable sources to identify the likely cause of machine faults
3. identify those machine faults which are within your remit and area of expertise
4. report those faults which you cannot resolve to appropriate people without delay
5. produce a realistic estimate of the time it will take to rectify faults which are stopping production
6. work on machine faults in line with health and safety and organisational requirements
7. identify recurring faults and their causes using information from reliable sources
8. take appropriate action to prevent faults reoccurring in line with organisational procedures
9. record the details of machine faults and production down-time in line with organisational processes
