Clean down equipment and machinery

This standard is about cleaning the equipment and machines used in your work.  It includes using safe methods and appropriate materials, restoring them to safe operating conditions after cleaning and maintaining records.

1. switch off and isolate machinery in line with organisational procedures before you start cleaning
2. select and wear Personal Protective Equipment as per organisational procedures
3. use cleaning equipment and materials that are suitable for machinery as specified in organisational procedures
4. use cleaning methods which are safe, avoid harm to the environment and which follow organisational procedures
5. clean and lubricate machines as specified in organisational procedures
6. dispose of used cleaning agents and waste materials in line with organisational procedures
7. check that machinery is safe to operate in line with organisational procedures, when you have finished cleaning
8. record accurate details of cleaning carried out in accordance with organisational procedures​

1. your responsibilities for cleaning machines including what you are permitted and not permitted to do
2. current organisational procedures for the safe handling and use of hazardous substances
3. the risks associated with handling cleaning materials and lubricants
4. the Personal Protective Equipment that must be worn by you or your team
5. the maintenance plan for the machine
6. the production schedule and how this affects cleaning operations
7. why it is important to use cleaning methods which are safe, avoid harming the environment and meet organisational procedures
8. suitable cleaning agents and lubricants for the machinery being cleaned
9. your organisation's procedures for the safe disposal of waste
10. organisational record keeping processes​
