                Overview
This standard is about identifying realistic and achievable improvements that can be made to the processes you are involved with. It includes using business improvements techniques to identify potential improvements in processes that will benefit productivity and efficiency and making the case for those improvements to those in charge.
Performance criteria
You must be able to:
- gather sufficient, relevant information from reliable sources to allow you to consider possible improvements
 - use appropriate, recognised tools and techniques to identify possible improvements
 - engage those who are able to contribute to identifying improvements in a way that encourages their contribution
 - check that improvements being considered are realistic and achievable
 - suggest improvements that are within the scope of your authority and job role
 - provide a rationale for proposed improvements to decision makers, using reasoned arguments and reliable information
 - communicate suggestions and their rationale to decision makers in a way that encourages their support
 - check that any changes to working practices and processes improve efficiency and productivity
 
Knowledge and Understanding
You need to know and understand:
- the process, materials, technology and standard operating procedures in use
 - how current tasks, processes and procedures are linked and the impact that changing one will have on the other
 - where to obtain the information you need and how to judge whether it is sufficient, accurate, reliable and relevant
 - the scope of your authority for suggesting improvements
 - the concepts of lean manufacturing and the business improvement techniques that can be used to achieve it
 - how to use key performance indicators to measure performance
 - the implications of change and the impact it can have on other people and the processes they are involved with
 - how to communicate suggestions for improvement and related changes clearly and concisely
 - how to evaluate the impact of change on productivity and efficiency
