Performance criteria

You must be able to:

  1. clarify and define objectives to meet customer requirements
  2. identify and interpret relevant measurements to meet customer

requirements

  1. make and record any measurements of components, subassemblies, products, models, equipment, layouts or facilities

needed for the preparation of the required drawings to meet

customer requirements

  1. calculate the required dimensions and other drafting details based

starting point to meet customer requirements

  1. create the required drawings following standard operating

procedures

  1. add architectural features, doors and windows, with dimensions

and positioning to meet customer requirements

  1. add units/fittings to your design in a variety of ways to meet

customer requirements

  1. add style, colour, lighting to enhance your design to meet

customer requirements

  1. save drawings in appropriate locations following standard

operating procedures

  1. produce hard copies of the finished drawings following standard

operating procedures

  1. annotate your plan and add dimensions following standard

operating procedures

  1. create a presentation to include plans, elevations and 3D images

following standard operating procedures

  1. identify any modifications needed to briefs and designs to meet

customer requirements

  1. propose an appropriate form of visual interpretation for selected

designs with decision-makers

You need to know and understand:

  1. details of client briefs and design objectives
  2. how to prepare and present visual interpretations of designs to a

professional standard

  1. national, international and organisational standards with regard to

drawings

  1. various types of drawing layouts used for designs
  2. symbols and abbreviations used
  3. how to determine scales to be used and methods of indicating this
  4. methods of constructing drawings and application and use of

drawing tools

  1. methods of constructing lines and curves, circles and ellipses
  2. types and application of dimension lines
  3. how to enter text onto drawings
  4. procedures and methods for editing drawings and text
  5. how to produce hard copies and advantages and disadvantages

of printers and plotters

  1. procedures to prepare and present written material in support of

designs

  1. how to communicate design proposals visually and in writing to

non-designers

  1. how to use design and presentation media, techniques and

technology

  1. how designs will be used
  2. how final designs will be realised/ produced/ installed/replicated
  3. how to prepare and present written material in support of designs
